New Energy Harvesting Module From Solid State Supplies Collects, Stores And Supplies Power

ALD Energy Harvesting Module

Designed for low power intermittent duty and long storage time applications,
The new EH300/EH301 series Epad based energy harvesting modules from Solid State Supplies can collect energy from many types of secondary or waste by-product environmental sources, such as thermal, mechanical, chemical, solar, biological and human body sources to power conventional 3.3V and 5.0V electrical circuits and systems.

With specific onboard functions including accumulation, energy storage, power conditioning and energy management from various energy sources, such as solar cells, PZT piezoelectric ceramic composite elements, inductive elements and micro thermal-electric generators,  EH300 series modules can easily adapt to a variety and wide range of voltage and power inputs and outputs.

Self-powered and always in the active mode, the modules are intended for low power intermittent duty cycle sampled data or condition-based monitoring/extreme lifespan applications. The modules can accept instantaneous input voltages ranging from 0.0V to +/-500V AC or DC, and input currents from 200nA to 400mA.

The stored energy is conditioned to provide power at output voltage and current levels that are within the limits of a particular electronic system power supply specifications such as 1.8V and 3.6V for powering many types of I/C circuits such as low power microprocessors and RF transmitters for remote field based applications.

Each device is set to operate between two supply voltage thresholds, +V low DC and +V high DC, corresponding to the minimum (VL) and maximum (VH) supply voltage values for the intended application. When an energy source starts to inject energy into the inputs of the module in the form of electrical charge impulses, these charge packets are collected, accumulated and stored onto an internal storage capacitor bank.

Measuring just 49mm long x 17mm high x 14mm wide just slightly larger than an AA battery case, these modules are specified to give an output ontime rating from 68mS @ 25mA to 88mS @ 150mA.

Typical applications for this module include power supply solutions for wireless sensor network nodes, EH based battery substitution and/or remote battery charging systems, hybrid or alternative power source conditioning and self-powered remote control switching systems
