Triple digital to analogue converters that are tailored to fit graphics and video applications where speed is critical are the first of a complete family of converters to be released by Solid State Supplies. The CDK3400/3401 devices have 8-bit resolution, are low-cost and their speeds are 100MSPS and 150MSPS respectively.
TTL-level inputs are converted to analog current outputs that can drive 25-37.5O loads corresponding to doubly-terminated 50-75O loads. A sync current following SYNC input timing is added to the IOG output. BLANK will override RGB inputs, setting IOG, IOB and IOR currents to zero when BLANK = L.
Although appropriate for many applications, the internal 1.235V reference voltage can be overridden by the VREF input. Double buffered for low distortion and having a ±0.2% linearity error , the CDK3400/3401 components are powered by a +5V supply and the only external components required are the current reference resistor, current output load resistors, and decoupling capacitors.
The CMOS package is a 48-lead TQFP and the operating temperatures is from 0 to 70°C. Applications include video signal conversion, multimedia systems, image processing, true-colour graphics systems, broadcast television equipment, High-Definition Television (HDTV) equipment and direct digital synthesis.
Other components in the family due to be released shortly include low cost triple D/A converters with 10-bit resolution and a version suited to PC graphics with 8-bit resolution and 180MSPS speeds.
